Tramadol Dosage

Tramadol Dosage

Tramadol is an analgesic medication developed in the 1970’s by the German pharmaceutical firm Grünenthal GmbH, and is used for treating moderate to severe chronic pain.

Tramadol is available in various forms, such as capsules, tablets, chewables, or extended release, and is also marketed under the names Ultram or Ultram ER.

It is very important to take Tramadol exactly as prescribed. Your doctor may recommend gradually increasing your dosage by 25 mg every 3 days in order to maximize your tolerability of Tramadol. After achieving the desired dosage, 50 mg to 100 mg of Tramadol can be taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain relief. Never exceed 400 mg/day. For elderly patients, the total intake of Tramadol should not exceed 300 mg/day.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. Do not take extra medication to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose
Seek immediate medical attention if you have exceeded your prescribed dosage; a Tramadol overdose can be fatal.

Other precautions may apply. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist for more complete information.
